Regional board of Control and Monitoring of Forestry and Wildlife approved a protocol to prioritize cases of damage to the forest heritage and a plan for building capacities for the competent institutions.
Chachapoyas, July 31, 2026. – The main institutions responsible for the control and monitoring of forest in the Amazon region adopted two strategic tools that will strengthen the response to deforestation and other environmental crimes during the 3.Th Ordinary Session of the Regional Board of Control and Monitoring of Forestry and Wildlife (MRCVFFS).
During the session, held in the city of Chachapoyas, the members of the Board approved the Plan Capacity building and the Protocol Prioritization of Cases of Involvement in the Heritage Foresttools that will help improve inter-institutional coordination, to optimize the care of the most critical cases and to strengthen the response capacity of the relevant entities.
The meeting was developed as part of the joint work that drives the Regional Authority Environmental (ARA) of the Regional Government of Amazonas, with the support of Conservation of the Amazon, ACCA, to strengthen the actions of prevention, control and surveillance in front of the crimes that affect forests and the wildlife of the region.
On behalf of Conservation of the Amazon, ACCA, lawyer, Sandra La Torre presented the actions of technical assistance that the organization has been providing to strengthen the operationalization of the Regional Table. Also, Bryan Yarupaita, consultant of the aforementioned organization, presented the results of the report of deforestation, anthropogenic corresponding to the first and second quarter of 2026, information that will serve to guide the actions of control and surveillance in the areas with higher pressure on the forests.
As part of the day, the participants reviewed and refined the technical documents with their contributions before submission by consensus. In addition, agreed on the importance of continuing to strengthen the work articulated for tackling deforestation and other environmental crimes that affect the heritage of forestry and wildlife of the Amazon.
Another of the agreements reached during the session was the incorporation of the Regional Organization of Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon region of Northern Peru (ORPIAN-P), and the Asociación Interétnica de Desarrollo de la Selva Peruana (AIDESEP) as invited members of the Regional Board, strengthening the participation of indigenous peoples in the spaces of forest governance.
The session was attended by eight member institutions of the Table Regional: the Regional Authority Environmental (ARA) of the Regional Government of Amazonas, the special Prosecutor in Environmental Matters (FEMA) of Bagua and Chachapoyas, the National Forest and Fauna Silvestre (SERFOR), the Agency for the Supervision of Forest Resources and Wildlife (OSINFOR), the department of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Goods (SUTRAN), the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (SERNANP) and the National Police of Peru (PNP).
The realization of this meeting was organized by the Regional Authority of the environment of the Regional Government of Amazonas, in collaboration with Conservation of the Amazon, ACCA, with the valuable support of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation – Norad and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
