Founder and President of the Board of Directors of Conservación Amazónica - ACCA
Peruvian ecologist educated at the National University of San Marcos (Peru) and Princeton University (United States).He is known for his work in biodiversity research and conservation in Peru and across the Andean Amazon, and for his continuous contributions to the press and media.
His work has focused on species and ecosystems research, protected area conservation, natural resource management, and the training of new generations of environmentalists. He has collaborated with important organizations such as Conservation International, Wildlife Conservation Society, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Blue Moon Fund, and has also served on the Board of Directors of Peru’s National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP).
He currently serves as Program Director of the Andes Amazon Fund.
MEMBER EMERITUS
Founder and former Executive Director of the Andes Amazon Fund, where he currently serves as a strategic advisor. Over the past 45 years, his fieldwork and conservation efforts have taken place in some of the most remote regions of the tropical Americas and other tropical regions worldwide.
Dr. Forsyth is a co-founder of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation's Andes-Amazon Initiative, the Amazon Conservation Association, and Osa Conservation. His career includes senior leadership roles at the Blue Moon Fund, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and Conservation International. He has also been affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, the Royal Ontario Museum, and Arizona State University.
He is the author of nine acclaimed natural history books and has created five biological stations in the Amazon and Central America. He holds a PhD in Tropical Ecology from Harvard University.
Renowned forester in Peru and prestigious global environmental photographer
Forestry engineer from the National Agrarian University La Molina (Peru), with specialization in forest management. He is also a journalist, editor, professional photographer and environmental advocate. He is one of the most important journalists in Peru on environmental and tourism issues.
With more than 30 years of experience leading biodiversity assessment programs, he has contributed to hundreds of publications.He has published over 600 books and guides. He has also authored thousands of articles on nature, culture, and sustainable resource management. He is Director of Wust Ediciones and WW Editores, and on the boards of Peru’s National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP), Conservación Amazónica – ACCA, IBC, Líderes+1 and Ccero. In addition, he is a founder and image of the new engineering and environmental management career of the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC).
His photographic archive includes more than four million images documenting Peru’s natural heritage.
FORMER MINISTER OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND AGRICULTURE OF PERU
Lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), with a master's degree in Social Policy specializing in Gender, Population, and Development from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). She has followed studies in Intercultural Education at PUCP. Her public service career includes roles as advisor and Secretary General at the Ministry of Agriculture, Executive Director of the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR), and Deputy Director of the U.S. Forest Service Cooperation Program in Peru – Peru Forest Sector initiative (PFSI).. She was a consultant for the Multisector Commission to Fight Illegal Logging of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF Peru) and for the International Resources Group – IRG. . She served as Minister of the Environment and later as Minister of Agriculture and IrrigationShe is currently Coordinator of the Coalition for Sustainable Production.
Opinion leader on environmental legislation in Peru
Environmentalist with more than 30 years of experience in protected areas, climate change, ecotourism, and voluntary conservation at national and international levels.
He has played a key role in designing Peru’s legal framework for protected natural areas and conservation instruments.
He is a frequent speaker at universities and international institutions and has authored numerous publications on conservation, land-use planning and wetlands.
He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas and the IUCN Environmental Law Commission, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Amazon Conservation Association. From 1989 to 2019, he held multiple leadership roles at the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law (SPDA). He currently works as an independent consultant.

He is actively involved in non-profit cultural and environmental initiatives and supports the design of financial and legal structures that enable community participation in environmental conservation.
Director of the Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability at Wake Forest University
Professor of biology and Director of the Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability at Wake Forest University, who has conducted research in the western Amazon and the Andes for more than 20 years. His research focuses on biodiversity and ecosystem responses to climate change, particularly the effects of climate on the establishment of species range dynamics, as well as fundamental ecosystem processes such as carbon storage and nutrient cycling.
Dr. Silman's current projects include the Andes Ecosystems and Biodiversity Research Group, a consortium that studies the effects of climate change on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in the Peruvian Andes. His previous work includes the study of the role of life history and plant-animal interactions in the structure and diversity of tropical tree communities in Manu National Park, Peru, and a paleoecological investigation into the composition and stability of the communities of tropical trees over time. Many of his research studies have been conducted at preservation centers of Amazon Conservation in Peru.
